This season, Lewis Hamilton has faced competition and pressure like he hasn’t seen in a while, his main rival being RedBull’s Verstappen who now holds the championship lead.
Having lifted the F1 championship for four consecutive years before this, the 36-year old is having a rather hard season to stomach as he exchanges the top spot with Verstappen more often than he (Hamilton) would want.
With their on-track rivalry, perhaps one would think that the off-track relationship between the two is strained, or has at least changed, but the reigning champion insists that he and Max relate just like they did in past years.
The two are chasing their own histories, with one (Verstappen) attempting to win RedBull’s first championship since Vettel’s in 2013, and the other (Hamilton) attempting to surpass Schumacher, with whom they are joint record holders.
All these objectives and the controversial accidents the two have had this season look like they could spell trouble, right? Hamilton doesn’t agree with the thought. The record 100-times prix winner thinks that all the tension hasn’t affected his relationship with his junior rival.
Ahead of the upcoming US Grand Prix, the 7-time world champion said in a press conference that there was “Not a huge amount to say…there’s limited communication,” and he doesn’t particularly hang out with fellow drivers, so he thought everything was normal.
He stressed specifically about his fellow Monaco-based counterpart and main rival currently, saying that whether on or off track, nothing differs from what it has been any other year.
