According to writer Paul Brown, West Ham United may pursue a January transfer for Everton defender Michael Keane to strengthen their back line.
As a result of his decline in performance at Everton, Keane can be considered as Craig Dawson’s replacement at West Ham United.
Brown said that the Blues and West Ham United are working on a “deal” to get the centre back, and he believes they would do so in January if they want him badly enough.
“I think he’s quite an underrated player who would fit quite well into that back four,” as quoted by GIVEMESPORT.
“I could see this one happening. There’s a deal to be done there, definitely. If West Ham want him badly enough, I think they’ll get him in January.”
While Keane is probably not a name that most fans would like to hear associated with the team, if he can replace Dawson in a similar manner, it would make sense.
Given that the Hammers are now involved in a relegation battle, Keane’s 219 Premier League appearances could be crucial.
Given that the defender has played for Everton for a total of 22 minutes this season, a deal would probably be simple to complete in January.
Though it may be best to start with a loan arrangement for the defender, doing so would offer the team the opportunity to determine whether or not making the arrangement permanent would be the proper course of action.
In any case, the Hammers’ prospects of finishing the season in the Premier League will be improved by having a defender with a lot of experience to call upon when needed.
Since there are still connections to Keane, expect to see a lot of activity in this area in January.
