Sasa Lukic, a Serbian midfielder who Marsch’s team has been monitoring throughout the FIFA World Cup 2022, may soon enter into negotiations with Leeds, according to reports.

Before the January transfer window opens, Leeds is one of the clubs reportedly prepared to make a move for Lukic once the World Cup is over, according to CalcioMercato. As of writing, Serbia are yet to qualify for the round of 16 ahead of their last group-stage meeting against Switzerland.

Forza Roma recently revealed that Torino are willing to let Lukic leave in January for about €15 million (£13 million). This would be a reasonable transfer fee given how well the midfielder performed in Qatar and how many elite teams, including Leeds, are now keen in signing the Serbian master.

According to CalcioMercato, AS Roma under Jose Mourinho are also interested in Lukic. Although Leeds are eager to soon begin negotiations with Torino about signing the midfielder before the January transfer window, it appears that the Premier League team is winning the race for the 26-year-old.

The Partizan Belgrade academy graduate has been a regular for Torino this Serie A season and has been in excellent form for the Turin-based team. And Lukic would be a good acquisition for Leeds, who appear prepared to restructure their midfield, which will primarily be constructed around Tyler Adams and Marc Roca.

In fact, the midfielder will give Leeds’ squad depth and experience at a position that needs it. And now that the Whites are prepared to start negotiations with Torino for Lukic, a deal between the two clubs over the Serbian star may soon be reached.

For Marsch and his recruitment staff, getting a midfielder for Leeds in January is of the utmost importance. Lukic might be the perfect fit considering his World Cup performances and his Torino results. However, the Whites need to move quickly if they want to finalise a deal with the 26-year-old.

Roma are reportedly also interested in Lukic. Even though Leeds appear to be the front-runners to sign the midfielder, it’s impossible to predict how many twists and turns this transfer saga will undergo before the Whites are able to secure a deal to bring the Serbian to Elland Road.
