This season’s formula one is without a doubt one of the most competitive in the sport’s recent history.
Current standings leader [by a couple of points], Lewis Hamilton and his closest rival Max Verstappen have had an exciting and at times controversial run throughout the season.
With only seven meetings to go, expectations are high for both Mercedes and RedBull, which might lead to mistakes or opportunities for either side.
Replying to a question about whether he still plans to end the season without engine penalties, Hamilton admitted he had no idea, and said he would try to maximize the present because he has no control over the future. “I am just trying to avoid …gassing it…just revving the thing,” he stated. “I can’t control the future.”
With the competition expected to get even stiffer for the remaining meets, Mercedes have concerns about their engines not holding up, as Lewis himself says he has so far lost one engine. But that’s not the side’s only problem. The 2020 champion’s season has been marred by mistakes, the latest being his crashes in qualification over the weekend and his poor start.
The seven-time champion though hasn’t given up the fight as he plans to maximize on each opportunity he gets despite uncertainty over his engines. The 7-time world champion did just that last weekend in the Russian Grand Prix when he overcame qualifying and starting mistakes to bag the win after 21’year old Lando Norris’ devastating slip.
Despite the odds seemingly playing against him, Hamilton’s caution and experience could just win him the upcoming Turkish GP in nine days, or better yet the season’s championship and help him go one better than his co-record holder Michael Schumacher.
