During Jurgen Klopp’s side’s first set of pre-season friendlies, Liverpool’s newest addition, former RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konate, had a difficult time adjusting to life in a Reds shirt.

The games they played ended in a 1-1 draw, with Divock Origi scoring in the first and Sadio Mane scoring in the second for Klopp’s side.

The games also gave Liverpool fans their first view of summer signing Konate, who showed some off-season rust after a summer of minimal football.

After the game, Ibrahima Konate expressed his delight, telling Liverpool’s official website: “Yes, I am very happy.

“It’s an unforgettable moment for me. Yes, without our fans – but I am very, very happy. Just a little bit sad – very sad – because we didn’t win. But it’s OK, I’m happy.”

Man United fans, on the other hand, used the game to mock Liverpool’s latest signing on social media.

Several United fans were quick to criticize Konate’s performance, with one fan saying: “He played awful.”

Not to be beaten by their rivals, Liverpool supporters reacted with zeal, jumping to the defence of their new defender and showering him with praise.
