Liverpool are actively looking for a replacement after Georginio Wijnaldum completed his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday afternoon.
During his five years at Anfield, the Dutchman was one of Jurgen Klopp’s most consistent performers, and the Liverpool manager must now decide how – or whether – to replace him.
Klopp might give Curtis Jones, a 20-year-old academy graduate, a bigger role next season, and hope Naby Keita escapes the injuries that have blighted his Liverpool career.
Alternatively, the Reds may look to find replacements for Wijnaldum in the summer market, with Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans being extensively linked with a move to Merseyside.
Tielemans, 24, has been key for the Foxes this season, scoring a spectacular goal in the FA Cup final last month.
According to recent reports, Liverpool’s attempts to sign the Belgian have stalled, with a Barcelona player now said to be the Reds’ first priority.
Liverpool are thought to be interested in Tielemans as a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, but despite recent reports that talks have begun, they have yet to make an offer.
Pedri emerges as priority target
Pedri, the Barcelona wonderkid, has been named as a ‘priority transfer target’ for Liverpool this summer.
The Reds are reportedly intensifying their interest in the midfielder, who has been compared to Andres Iniesta, according to Mundo Deportivo (via the Daily Star).
The 18-year-old has a £70 million release clause, which may be out of reach for the Reds, but with Georginio Wijnaldum set to join Paris Saint-Germain, they will be looking for replacements in that area.
In the summer of 2019, Pedri was signed for £18 million from Las Palmas before being loaned back to the Spanish club.
