Loan move confirmed for Celtic player – report
The Hoops right-back will play for the Spiders as they aim to improve on their third placed finish in the Championship last season.
Queen’s Park confirmed the deal on Thursday, including some quotes from McPherson.
“After a good period in pre-season with Celtic, both the club and I felt that a loan move would be ideal for my further development,” he said.
“There was interest from other clubs, but once I had spoken to Marijn Beuker and Robin Veldman about the project and philosophy at Queen’s Park, I felt it would be a first-class opportunity for me to continue to learn and develop at a very progressive club.
“I am here to work hard and to give 110% effort to the club, staff, my colleagues on the pitch, and most importantly the fans.”
McPherson is right to reference that he had a good pre-season at Celtic. The defender was one of the main beneficiaries of our extensive injury list, with more opportunities at right-back as a result of Alistair Johnston and Anthony Ralston being out.
McPherson was given a big chance during our week in Japan, featuring in friendlies against Yokohama F. Marinos and Gamba Osaka. He also came on in Dublin against Wolves and looked pretty able.
But with Ralston back and Johnston likely to return soon, it’s probably a good move to get him out on loan and playing first-team matches.
Queen’s Park’s director of football Beuker did mention that his club are hoping McPherson won’t block the “pathway” for some of their promising right-back talents. So it’s fair to say that this looks like a one-year thing.
Hopefully he impresses and can mount a proper charge on the Hoops first-team this time next year.
