Reports indicate that Manchester United are in the final stages of making a deal with Barcelona to sign Frenkie de Jong.

The Red Devils have been on de Jong’s radar for weeks and are determined to land the Dutch midfielder.

Barcelona have rejected several offers for the player despite their willingness to sell him this summer. They are demanding around £68.7 million for the Dutchman.

It is unclear whether Manchester United are willing to pay that much or are negotiating further to agree on a different offer.

According to Sport (paper edition), United are willing to pay £60 million plus add-ons. This summer could be the only chance Barca have to sell de Jong for that much.

Since de Jong has stated his desire to remain at Camp Nou, there hasn’t been any hint of competing offers.

It will ultimately come down to how desperate Barca is for the money, though they should be less eager now that the move to sell two sets of assets to raise a significant sum of money was accepted by the members.
