Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.

Manchester United are still looking for a striker after signing midfielder Jadon Sancho, and Calvert-Lewin is one of their main targets for the position, according to soccer website Teamtalk. The young English player, who has a deal with Everton until 2025, is worth around $69 million at the moment.

According to Football365, Manchester United’s interest in Calvert-Lewin dates back to 2019, when the club’s chief executive Ed Woodward wanted to bring him to Old Trafford as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

Since Lukaku’s departure in 2019, the Red Devils have not found a long-term substitute for him, despite signing veteran Edinson Cavani, who has one year left on his deal.

Calvert-Lewin, 24, began his soccer career at Sheffield United before being signed by Everton.

Calvert-Lewin improved his game in the 2020-21 season after scoring 15 goals in 41 competitive outings in the previous season.

He scored 21 goals in 39 appearances for the Toffees in all competitions, earning him the Merseyside club’s Player of the Year award. In 33 Premier League games, he scored 16 of the 21 goals.

Manchester United have also been linked with Harry Kane and Erling Haaland for the same position. The Red Devils were previously believed to be planning to treble Kane’s salary in order to beat Manchester City to the England captain’s signature.

According to Sky Sports, while United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is yet to make an offer for Kane, Tottenham Hotspur has turned down City’s initial bid.

Last season, the two Manchester teams dominated the Premier League, with United finishing second after falling 12 points short.
