Manchester United vs Atalanta: team news and prediction

Manchester United welcome Italian side Atalanta to Old Trafford in the third round of Group F fixtures.

United manager, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has given an update on his squad ahead of the fixture, beginning with Anthony Martial who will be unavailable.

This is despite the Frenchman joining in on training on Tuesday. His absence is probably due to lack of full fitness after being injured on international duty.

Raphael Varane is still unavailable, following the groin injury he suffered in the UEFA nations League final against Spain.

Some good news is that Fred and Cavani are back with the squad and fit.

The duo was unable to join the team in the trip to Leicester on Saturday, as they were kicking it for their countries in the 2022 World Cup Qualifier match between Brazil and Uruguay on Friday.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also available after serving his suspension, which was halved after an appeal, following his sending off in the match against Young Boys.

Harry Maguire will probably start the game, as he featured last weekend against his old club, returning from a calf injury.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Solksjaer said:

“Anthony joined in training today but he’s still not fit enough to join us.”

“Harry’s not had any reaction so he’s fine and good to go. We didn’t lose anyone else from the game through injury at the weekend, so we’re, more or less, a full squad.

“Raphael is still not with us but Edinson and Fred are back available which is good for us.”

Atalanta will probably be without Rafael Toloi as the center half seems to have suffered a thigh injury in the match against Empoli.

Matteo Pessina, Robin Gosens, Hans Hateboer and Berat Djimsiti are also rumoured to be ruled out for the trip to England.

Prediction

  • Man Utd 3-1 Atalanta
