In an interview with Off The Ball, Mark Lawrenson believes Everton will stay up this season despite their poor performances.

With only six games remaining, Everton are in the bottom three, and if they don’t improve, they will be playing second-tier football for the first time in their history.

The Merseyside team have a tough run of fixtures ahead of them and are in poor form, but Lawrenson believes they’ll just manage to stay up.

“I think they did well for an hour against Liverpool, but I think Frank Lampard will be ok. I have a sneaking suspicion that they might just stay up, but I think that might be more to do with the teams below them and the one above them more than anything else,” Lawrenson said.

The teams above Everton, according to Lawrenson, may falter, but Burnley are on a good run of fixtures and appear to have the bit between their teeth following back-to-back victories.

Everton won’t have to worry about Watford or Norwich getting close to them before the end of the season. But getting enough points to get ahead of Burnley or Leeds will be very difficult at this point.
