This summer, David Moyes set sights on Juventus defender, Luca Pellegrini, but the 22-year old Italian defender chose to remain in his home country and fight for his place there. Despite shining in his first days at Juve, Pellegrini hasn’t had the chance to start regularly this season.
But West Ham haven’t given up, and according to Calcio Mercato, the Italian youngster is being eyed by the Hammers once again, after his continued stay on the bench for the former Italian Serie A champions.
Pellegrini may have to leave the comfort of his home country or current club in order to secure more playing time and a better football career in the future.
Looking to use the opportunity, David Moyes could go for the youngster again when the transfer window opens next, and hopefully this time, Pellegrini will reconsider his stay at Turin.
With West Ham’s defender Aaron Cresswell getting on in years, the East Londoners need a cover or perhaps a successor for the defensive position, and Pellegrini could fit right in.
The Premier League has been more competitive in the past few seasons, but David Moyes managed to bring West Ham back from the brink of relegation in the 2019-2020 season to an impressive seventh in 2020-2021.
Currently, they are ninth. If they want to equal last season’s performance or go even better in this tough season, they will need players at their best; something a youngster like Pellegrini, with his speed, can manage.
A chance to join West Ham might exist, but nothing can be done if Luca rejects an Italy-England move the second time.
