The world has seen former World No. 1, Andy Murray in his glory days, his dreadful injury time, and now the comeback. It is true that the Brit hasn’t had as many wins as he wanted after returning from injury, but what can’t be ignored is the fact that Murray is getting better.
After a number of matches against opponents in the top fifty, some of whom are among the best in the world currently, the 2012 US Open winner admits that he often lost chances and must rectify that to get back on top.
“I need to be a bit more clinical and ruthless…When opportunities come, I am going to take them and be clinical,” Murray decisively stated.
But what happens to the British tennis fraternity when their legend cannot get back to his best, or when he finally retires? Well, Murray thinks his nation will be in great hands as far as tennis is concerned; Cameron Norrie.
The 26-year old won this year’s Indian Wells trophy, his first Masters title, despite not having much previous Masters experience. “I don’t think he (Norrie) has ever made it to the QF of a Masters series before…. If I finish tomorrow, I would feel comfortable that British tennis would be in a good spot.” Murray admitted
For someone who has lifted British tennis to extreme levels for so many years to be assured of him (Norrie), he must be a great player, and that was evident when Cameron surpassed limits he hadn’t before to lift the Indian Wells Masters title last week.
