Newcastle United and Atletico Madrid have agreed on a £12 million transfer deal for right-back Kieran Trippier.
The Magpies have agreed to sign the Englishman this month after reaching an agreement with the reigning La Liga champions, according to Sky Sports News.
Contract terms are not expected to be an issue, according to the source, and Trippier will now go to the northeast to conduct a medical before moving to Newcastle.
The 31-year-old defender will be the first signing under Newcastle’s PIF system, with Eddie Howe looking to reinforce his defense this month.
Newcastle could make fresh players to the backline, midfield, and central attack. After sustaining a calf injury against Manchester United, Callum Wilson is projected to miss the most of the campaign.
Trippier’s arrival does, in fact, usher in a new era for Newcastle. While signing the defender will not address the club’s difficulties, it does show that the Toon have the financial clout to recruit some big players this month.
Trippier, an England finalist at Euro 2020, is a fantastic addition to Newcastle’s roster and could be used as an example of the type of player the Magpies should be targeting in January.
Last season, Trippier was a fan favorite among Atletico Madrid fans during their title-winning season, and Newcastle fans will be eager to see what he can bring to the back-line.
