Newcastle have stepped in to sign £138,000-a-week PSG player

The Daily Mail has reported that wealthy English Premier League side Newcastle United have joined the race for the signature of Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

The Magpies have shown interest in the 29-year-old shot stopper after talks between West Ham United and PSG to make the loan deal permanent for an estimated asking price of £7.6 stalled.

However, it is also understood that the Frenchman would prefer to stay in London despite making one appearance for West Ham in the Premier League for the entire 2021/2022 season on loan.

Alphonse Areola came on for the Hammers 11 times in the Europa League, thrice in the League Cup, and three games in the FA Cup last term.

Due to their wealthy status, Newcastle United pose a threat to West Ham in the hunt for the goalkeeper. The Magpies are said to be considering a £138,000-a-week (SalarySport) first team goalkeeper in the summer.

Eddie Howe is expected to be one of the busiest managers in the transfer window as he seeks to avoid last season’s shaky start in the English Premier League.
