Newcastle may want him, but Benitez isn’t keen to move

Sitting in the second to last position with four points out of a possible 27 isn’t what Newcastle had signed up for when the EPL commenced for the 2021/2022 season. The Magpies new owners had to send former coach, Steve Bruce packing after another draw over the weekend, leaving temporary coaching to Graeme Jones.

As the search for a new coach continues, a number of candidates are being eyed, among them former Newcastle coach, Rafael Benitez, whose position at Everton is now shaky.

The 61-year old Spaniard was rumored to return to Newcastle under new ownership, and despite him denying it, he’s being linked to a St. James Park move again after Watford humbled his side 2-5 at home the past weekend.

Benitez is set on proving himself at Everton despite the Toffees’ recent bad run, and has once again, this time through an intermediary, dismissed rumors of him leaving Goodison Park.

The Magpies owners have spoken with some potential candidates, but a final decision hasn’t been made yet, and others, including Benitez could still be interviewed, especially if the latter’s poor start at Everton sees him dismissed.

If Rafa convinces the Blues to hold on to him though, Newcastle still have a number of choices, like former Dortmund manager, Favre, who has admitted he would like to work there. Since nothing is set in writing yet, Graeme Jones will keep standing in until someone is decided on.
