According to reports, English Premier League side Newcastle United have been dealt a double injury blow.

Journalist Chris Waugh took to his Twitter account to state that Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has revealed both Joe Willock and Jonjo Shelvey will not be available for the Magpies in their last two Premier League fixtures.

The duo were also unavailable as Newcastle were hammered 5-0 by Premier League defending champions Manchester City on Sunday.

“Eddie Howe confirms that midfielders Joe Willock (a knee problem) and Jonjo Shelvey (a calf issues) are unlikely to feature in either of NUFC‘s final two matches of the season. Both missed the 5-0 defeat to MCFC.”

This comes as a setback to Eddie Howe’s charges and their hopes of finishing the season in the top ten after surviving what seemed to be a possible relegation earlier in the season.

Newcastle United are trailing tenth-placed Brighton by a point. They will be forced to dig deeper without the services of Willock and Shelvey to finish strong in the current campaign.

Willock has impressed for Newcastle after featuring for the club 29 times, while Shelvey has been excellent in the top-flight with his 24 appearances for the club this season.

Shelvey has been on the scoresheet twice this season, capped with an assist. His ability to make long passes that are spot-on has been a big part of Newcastle’s recent rise in the Premier League.
