Dean Saunders, a former assistant manager at Newcastle United, would want to see Aaron Ramsey wear a Magpies jersey this year.

The Wales international’s alleged £400,000 per week contract with Juventus was cancelled this week, and he is now looking for a new team.

With injuries hampering his time in Serie A and a dismal loan season at Europa League finalists Rangers last season, Ramsey’s career has stagnated in recent years.

However, despite his difficulties, Saunders, a fellow countryman, thinks the 31-year-old still has a lot to offer before the Qatar World Cup.

Saunders told talkSPORT: “I’d like to see him at Newcastle. I think that’s the train you want to jump on. Or Nottingham Forest.

“A lot of people don’t realise Steve Cooper is Welsh. He’s been involved with the England camp for a long time, but he’ll know Aaron.

“In the Euros, when Wales played Turkey, (Gareth) Bale and Ramsey played together – and Ramsey was magnificent.

“He’s had a few injuries. He broke his leg [against] Birmingham, and it affected him for a long time.

“He’s got a great football brain. He covers more ground than any player on the pitch. Good finisher, great lad.”

Ramsey spent 11 years at Arsenal, where he appeared in over 350 games and netted 65 goals.

In January, Ramsey was briefly linked to Newcastle, and any prospective transfer would probably require the club to break its pay structure.
