Luka Milivojevic picked up an injury against Chelsea over the weekend and will not travel with the club to Newcastle today, according to Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira.
This season, the club captain has not played as much as he would have wanted, with Jeffrey Schlupp, Conor Gallgher, and Cheikhou Kouyaté filling in for him in midfield.
Palace were knocked out of the FA Cup semi-finals by Chelsea, who won with goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount, meaning the focus has now shifted to the remaining seven matches of the season.
The one bright spot from the encounter at Wembley was Eberechi Eze’s performance, who looked quick and silky anytime he touched the ball.
The young English midfielder has been looking for an opportunity to show everyone why he was knocking on England’s door last season, and he used the big platform at Wembley to accomplish just that.
After his outstanding performance at Wembley, Patrick Vieira said that he has always admired the dynamic midfielder but has had to limit his playing time due to the severity of the injury he sustained last season.
The Crystal Palace boss said: “I will tell you I was 100 percent a long time ago but it’s always some steps.
“Because after a long injury like that, what we don’t want is a step back. We’ve been really careful with the medical staff, looking at his workload.
“Sometimes we have to make a decision for the players, he will start some of them and he will come off the bench from others.
“What is important for him is to keep training on a regular basis to build his fitness and see what happens at the end of the season.”
