Renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Rangers star Rory Wilson is set to sign a deal with English Premier League side Aston Villa on July 1.
Wilson is arguably on the verge of becoming another big name in Europe after scoring a total of 49 goals at the youth level last season for Rangers.
The 16-year-old striker has earned 11 caps with Scotland at the U-18 level, with eight goals already to his name.
Both Aston Villa and Rangers have reportedly been in discussion over a suitable deal for months, but the Scottish club is said to have rejected Villa’s latest offer of around £300,000 (via The Athletic).
Romano shared the news about Wilson via Twitter on Monday morning;
“Villa are ‘set to sign’ the ‘talented Scottish striker from Rangers’ with ‘personal terms now agreed.”
“He’ll officially become their player at the beginning of next month.”
In the event that no agreement has been reached by the two clubs, the matter could be decided by the FIFA Resolution Committee.
Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard, formerly of Rangers, is believed to be at the centre of the transfer. However, it is also said the Rangers have already presented Wilson with a lucrative first professional contract to persuade him to stay.
