Ange Postecoglou, who was relatively unknown, was chosen as the Celtic manager in 2021 after the failed hiring of Eddie Howe. His main objective was to bring back Celtic’s position as the top team in Scotland, and he has succeeded.

In his debut season, Ange achieved an impressive feat by winning both the league and cup titles. Now, he is on track to secure a treble this season.

The Celtic manager acknowledges that this success wouldn’t have been possible without the backing of Dermot Desmond, the majority shareholder of the club.

Ange said [Daily Record], “It’s been quite a two years since that first talk with Dermot. We’ve accomplished so much in that time.

“It was a lot different when I walked in but we have done a lot, from the success we have had on the field to the players we have brought in. The way we play our football and the general feeling around the club, the connection with supporters, has been a credit to everyone.

“From my perspective, I couldn’t be happier with the support I have received to try to get this club back to where it’s been before, and was for a long time. The fact we could do it really quickly is a credit to everyone.

“Dermot was the first person I spoke to with regards to the club. He’s very influential and has been very supportive, personally and within the club – particularly when we didn’t have the smoothest of starts.

“It didn’t last very long but was still a difficult beginning. During that time, he was immensely supportive of me. I knew he and the club would have my back until I got the club to where we needed to be.

“I enjoy a great relationship with Dermot and his family. He’s a very important part of Celtic and has been for a long time. It’s been great I have been able to repay that faith he showed me right from the start.”

It was crucial for Ange to have a strong beginning as the Celtic manager. However, the team faced setbacks early on, losing three out of their first six matches against Hearts, Livingston, and Rangers. This put the manager under pressure, primarily from the media rather than the fans.

Despite the initial challenges, it was evident from the start that Ange had a distinct style of play in mind for the club. The thrilling 6-0 victories over Dundee and St Mirren provided Celtic fans with a glimpse of the exhilarating attacking football that Ange aimed to implement. From that point on, the supporters were fully on board with his vision.

Despite doubts about Ange’s longevity as the Celtic manager, Dermot Desmond, the majority shareholder, remained steadfast and committed. Now, we are witnessing the positive outcomes of that decision. Hopefully, we can continue to enjoy these rewards for several more years.

These remarks from the Celtic manager should bring comfort to the Celtic fans. Many of us have concerns about Ange’s current one-year rolling contract. However, Ange’s comments indicate that he is content and satisfied with his position at the club.

It appears that Ange has no intention of moving on in the near future, and his strong bond with Dermot Desmond is undoubtedly a significant factor in his decision.
