When Calvert-Lewin returns from injury this month, Rafa Benitez believes he will be a “massive signing” for the Toffees.
The Englishman has been sidelined with an injury since August, but he is expected to play in Everton’s Premier League encounter against Brighton on tomorrow.
Last season, Lewin was the Toffees’ star performer, scoring 21 goals across all competitions.
He continued his good form into this season, scoring in all three Premier League matches he played in August as Everton won two and drew one before sustaining an injury.
Since then, Calvert-Lewin has been a major loss for Benitez, with Everton unable to score goals.
Everton, who haven’t played since a 1-1 draw with the Blues on December 16, are eager for a victory against Brighton on Sunday.
Benitez is overjoyed to have him back in the lineup.
“I can say that it’s a massive signing for us for the second part of the league,” he said.
“I think so,” Rafa Benitez said when asked if Calvert-Lewin can manage the pressure that comes with that title. “He was the top scorer last year, he was growing and getting better and better as a player.
“He has now the experience to manage [it].
“He knows he is an important player. I’m not expecting him to score three goals every game and win the games on his own.
“I’m expecting him to give everything and be an important player because the others know that he can score goals, he can help the team.
“It’s just more about how important he is for the team, not that he has to make the difference on his own.
“The team has to be sure they support him, and at the same time he has to be sure he is linking with the players around and that the players around know that if they give him a chance he will score.
“But, not, not too much pressure on him that ‘he has to win the games’, he has to help the team to win the games.”
Dynamo Kyiv left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko is expected to join the club soon.
“I hope that we can say something in a few days,” Benitez added on transfers.
“I’m quite confident that we will do it. I say to you, I don’t know it was 10 days ago, that I was 200 per cent confident that we will do something at the beginning of January, I’m still convinced about that.
“But my focus now is just to be sure that we approach Brighton with the right mentality.”
