Rangers might still recruit Manchester City wonderkid James McAtee on deadline day, according to transfer analyst Dean Jones.
This month, the youngster has been linked with a transfer north of the border.
The 19-year-old has made three appearances for Manchester City’s senior team under Pep Guardiola after impressing in the club’s under-23 side. He has scored 23 goals from midfield in 44 appearances for the 23’s.
Not only that, but the England Under-20 international has also provided 16 assists from the offensive midfield position. McAtee has huge potential, and Rangers could be the ideal setting for him to continue to develop this season.
According to the Mail, Gerrard’s Aston Villa and Rangers are among the teams interested in signing McAtee.
It would be a sensational signing if Rangers could secure McAtee, even if it was just on a temporary loan. Amad Diallo’s display against Ross County prove he will be a fantastic signing by assisting on two of his team’s three goals.
Despite the fact that, like McAtee, Diallo only gets consistent game time in Premier League 2. You’d be hard pressed to find a more consistent performer in PL2 than McAtee. However, Villa will be a tough competitor.
With Ianis Hagi out with an injury and Gio van Bronckhorst preferring to play with a 10, a loan to Rangers would provide McAtee with immediate game time. If Rangers can pull it off, it will be a fantastic signing.
