Rangers deal to complete signing No 8 all but done, agreement in place
Rangers are close to signing Jose Cifuentes after striking a deal with Los Angeles FC to sign the midfielder, according to Andres Ponce.
The South American journalist, who works for Ecuadorian Diblu TV, tweeted on 18 July that a deal has been reached between the two clubs for the 24-year-old and that a move is “almost done” to take him to Ibrox.
Ponce said the move will give the Ecuadorian international his opportunity in European football at a “historic club” and that it may be his “stepping stone to a stronger league”.
It seems as though a deal to bring in Cifuentes isn’t too far away from being finalised, ensuring the Gers will have an exciting new midfielder before long.
This has been a transfer that has been going on for much of the transfer window, as Michael Beale has been eager to improve his squad to help mount a title challenge for next season.
The Ecuadorian, who has played 16 times for the national team, has been a key player for LA FC since joining the club for a reported £2.3million from Universidad Catolica in 2020.
The box-to-box midfielder played a vital role in helping his side win the MLS title in 2022 after scoring eight goals and providing seven assists for his teammates in 40 appearances, proving he will be a quality addition at Ibrox.
Cifuentes has played 19 times for the LA outfit so far this season, so he will be fully fit and ready to go once the SPL season starts in a few weeks.
