According to the Daily Record, Rangers’ pursuit of Norwich playmaker Todd Cantwell might signal the beginning of a transfer frenzy.

The tabloid has stated on its website that negotiations are going on at Ibrox for the England under-21 international during the winter transfer window.

In order to close the nine-point gap to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and win domestic cup medals along the road, Michael Beale is trying to bolster his team.

Mark Pirie discussed the possibility of the doors opening in his most recent Daily Record piece, noting that Glasgow needs a strong second half of the season.

“The England under-21 cap is understood to be in talks about a move to the Scottish Premiership side as Michael Beale looks to land his first signing as Ibrox boss, with Cantwell looking to kickstart his career north of the border after a disappointing 18 months in the English Championship,” he wrote.

“It could open the floodgates at Ibrox as Beale looks to catch league leaders Celtic this term, as well as enjoy success in the Viaplay Cup and Scottish Cup.”

Cantwell is a fantastic addition to the side, but he must come first, not last.

Beale’s hiring of these young English performers could be a blessing for them as they attempt to relaunch their careers after something didn’t quite work out.

Given the proper platform, this player, who once single-handedly destroyed Manchester City, could become a superstar in Scotland and, more crucially, significantly raise his value.

Right now, there is a glaring gap in that central midfield position, and it is caused by the lack of attacking dynamism with players like Tom Lawrence dealing with injury difficulties.

Glen Kamara, John Lundstram, and Ryan Jack are not on the team to score goals every week, but they must create opportunities and move forward to dismantle defences.

With Cantwell playing that position in front of them, everything now makes sense to Beale, who will be eager to finish this one at Ibrox with all eyes on it.
