Rangers legend Richard Gough has hailed his old club’s win against Celtic before the international break, stating that it was a crucial one. Gough was particularly impressed with Leon Balogun and Old Firm debutant Robby McCrorie’s performances in the clash, going on to praise them.

Balogun covered at right-back with both skipper James Tavernier and Nathan Patterson ruled out for Rangers.

The club legend admitted that he was a little bit concerned going into the game before Filip Helander’s 66th minute  goal bagged the three points for the Light Blues and continued the Hoops agonizing long run without a win against Rangers.

“It’s a very important win for Rangers because a lot of people were asking questions,” Gough said . “We haven’t had the best of starts to the season.

“Going into the game when I heard about all the problems with Covid I was a wee bit worried with the manager missing and Robby McCrorie coming in for his first start in a derby.

“But the young man did incredibly well.

“Like all Rangers fans I was worried, we didn’t have our two right-backs and had to put Leon Balogun in there.

With the Scottish Premiership back in action this weekend, Rangers face St Johnstone tomorrow amidst rumours that those who missed the Old Firm could be back. Many are interested to see whether either McCrorie or Balogun will feature in the match.

McCrorie has long been crowned as Allan McGregor’s long-time successor in goalie and getting him more minutes could be important in boosting the 23-year old’s experience. However, many argue that it is important to get as much as possible from the  39-year-old veteran keeper before he hangs his gloves.
