Rangers set for new £400k transfer for £1.2m player – report

According to the Daily Record, Rangers have agreed to sign Jose Cifuentes from Los Angeles FC for a fee of around £400,000.

The Scottish newspaper reported on 25 July that the Gers would sign the Ecuador international for free when his contract runs out at the end of the year, but they are now looking to bring him in sooner.

It said the MLS club are willing to let the 24-year-old go for about £400,000 after they initially wanted £1.2million for him.

Rangers are getting a bargain if they sign Cifuentes for the reported £400k fee, as they look to add more quality to their midfield this summer.

LA FC had hoped to get three times as much for him, so they will be unhappy to sell him for much less than they expected, but they will want to avoid losing him for nothing at the end of the year.

The Ecuadorian has been impressive in his 121 games for the club since joining for a reported £2.3million fee in 2020, scoring 15 goals and setting up 20 more.

He was instrumental in helping the LA club win the MLS title in 2022, with seven goals and eight assists, and his performances attracted the interest of the Gers who have been pursuing him for most of the transfer window.

They will now hope to complete the deal for the all-round midfielder and get him settled in the team before the new season begins.
