Despite his ardent request to stay at Rangers after the Scottish Cup Final, defender Leon Balogun has been dismissed.

In the aftermath of Rangers’ triumph over Hearts, an emotional Balogun, 33, made an emotional appeal to the Rangers board, insisting that the Ibrox club had gotten into his heart.

“Anyone who knows how I move around the club and within the club, know I have absolutely fallen in love with this club,” said Balogun [STV].

“As I described, getting knocked down and getting back up, is like my career. That is why me and Rangers are quite a good fit.

“I would love to stay. I think they know that and I hope I can announce something about my future with Rangers soon.”

However, the Nigerian international’s prayers were ignored when the club confirmed Leon Balogun’s exit at the end of his deal [Rangers].

It’s unclear whether Connor Goldson’s choice to extend his contract has impacted Leon Balogun’s Rangers career.

The Rangers confirmed a four-year agreement for Goldson earlier this week, and any deal for Leon Balogun could be contingent on the situation with the Rangers vice-captain.

John Souttar of Hearts and Scotland has also joined the Light Blues ahead of the new season, and the 25-year-old has already surpassed Leon Balogun in the Ibrox pecking order.
