According to sources, Rangers are set to begin their summer revamp by announcing their first signing on Wednesday night, May 24th.
The club’s manager, Michael Beale, has been open about the significant task ahead during the off-season, stating that it will be the club’s most important transfer window in years.
Rangers recently confirmed that Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor, Alfredo Morelos, Scott Arfield, and Filip Helander will all be leaving the club as their contracts expire at the end of this month.
It is believed that the club’s first new signing will be officially announced on Wednesday after weeks of negotiations with their initial targets.
Football Insider previously reported on May 14th that Rangers had scheduled a medical for defender Dujon Sterling, who turned down offers from Chelsea and Stoke City to join the Glasgow giants on a four-year contract.
Additionally, on May 8th, the same source revealed that Kieran Dowell had undergone a medical and signed a three-year contract with Rangers after leaving Championship side Norwich.
A reliable source has informed Football Insider that goalkeeper Jack Butland, currently on loan from Manchester United, and Los Angeles FC player Jose Cifuentes are also close to securing moves to Glasgow.
Rangers manager Michael Beale has publicly emphasized the need for significant reinforcements following a disappointing season.
Despite defeating rivals Celtic 3-0 in their recent Old Firm meeting on May 13th, Rangers find themselves eight points behind in the league.
The club also endured their worst-ever Champions League campaign, losing all group games and conceding 22 goals.
Beale has chosen to initiate the overhaul ahead of the conclusion of the 2022-23 campaign, as Rangers will need to go through two rounds of qualifiers in August to secure a spot in the prestigious UEFA Champions League.
This summer will also mark Beale’s first pre-season with the Rangers players since taking over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst in November 2022.
