Sources have informed Football Insider that Harry Watling, who is currently a first team coach at Rangers, will become the new head coach of the B team after this season.

He will replace David McCallum, who has been with the Rangers academy since 2015 and briefly served as caretaker manager before Giovanni Van Bronckhorst took over in 2021.

McCallum will depart in the summer and Michael Beale, the manager, has chosen Watling to lead the B team as part of a major overhaul at the club.

Beale is aiming to close the gap with Celtic, who have dominated Scottish football, by restructuring the club’s football operations.

Watling joined Rangers from QPR along with Van Bronckhorst in November last year and has been working with the first team players.

He will now switch to coaching some of Rangers’ best young talents as they try to create a better route to the first team for the club’s promising youngsters.

The club is undergoing a significant transformation with several senior figures either leaving or announcing their departure at the end of the season.

Along with McCallum, Douglas Park, Ross Wilson, Andrew and Pippa Dickson, Craig Mulholland, Kenny Barclay and Stewart Robertson have also left or will leave when the season finishes.
