Rangers transfer deal for new signing collapses – report

Rangers are set to miss out on their move for Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo, according to Darren Witcoop.

The Sunday Mirror journalist tweeted on 3 August that the 22-year-old is still expected to leave the Premier League side, but a move to Ibrox has now “collapsed”.

He said the centre-back is attracting interest from Europe as well as being high up on the list of Championship clubs Cardiff City, West Brom and Coventry City.

This latest development will be a blow to Michael Beale as he looked to bring in Panzo, who impressed on loan at Coventry last season, to add more depth to his defensive options.

The Daily Mail reported 1 July that a deal was “close” to be completed to take the central defender to Ibrox on loan this summer, but the deal was then believed to have been held up due to finances.

The Gers are looking for further reinforcements at the back following the injury of Leon King, with the 19-year-old expected to be out for a “significant period of time”.

They have re-signed Leon Balogun to provide cover, but Beale would’ve been hoping to land a deal for Panzo to provide a younger option that could compete for a starting spot on a regular basis.

With that deal now appearing to be dead in the water, it’s time to move on to other targets as the start of the new season is just a couple of days away.
