According to Alan Nixon of The Sun, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers are more interested in recruiting Ross Barkley from Chelsea than Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic in the summer transfer window.

The well-known and renowned writer claimed on Patron that Rangers had entered the battle for Barkley and are hoping to convince the attacking midfielder, who earns £200,000 per week (according to The Sun), to transfer to Ibrox by promising him UEFA Champions League football.

Both Rangers and their Old Firm rivals Celtic, who won the Scottish Premiership title last year and are also considering acquiring Barkley this summer, will participate in the UEFA Champions League.

Simon Phillips, a reputable and renowned reporter, told GiveMeSport earlier this month that Celtic are among the teams interested in the 28-year-old English playmaker.

Other teams speculated to be interested in Barkley include Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Brighton and Hove Albion, and West Ham United.

He wrote:

“Rangers are looking into a deal for Chelsea outcast Ross Barkley – with the chance of offering him a crack at the Champions League.

“The Scottish giants are keen on midfield schemer Barkley and may have a real shot at landing him before the window shuts.

“Chelsea are looking to shift Barkley and could even free the former England midfielder.

“It would take a huge pay off to let Barkley go but new owner Todd Boehly may make an offer to let him move on.”
