According to BBC Sport, Real Madrid are “monitoring” the England international and Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez.
This season, Gomez has been left on the bench by Jurgen Klopp, who has preferred to play both Matip and the club’s recent signing Ibrahima Konate.
The 24-year-old’s form has considerably been affected by injuries, the reason why he was consistently unavailable in most of last season’s matches.
Gomez has more than three years left on his deal with Liverpool. According to the report, Real Madrid has not approached the Merseyside club regarding a transfer.
According to BBC Sport, while Real Madrid is interested in signing Gomez and a centre back, the club believes it will be impossible to accomplish so in the January transfer window.
The Spanish club has also been linked with a summer move for Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rüdiger, who will become a free agent if he does not sign a new deal with the Blues.
