Celtic seemed to be on the brink of acquiring Riley McGree, but the transfer could now be jeopardized by Middlesbrough of the Championship.

McGree’s transfer from Charlotte FC to Celtic was expected to happen soon, according to the Daily Record.

Ange Postecoglou’s personal influence on the deal is said to have enticed compatriot McGree to join Celtic for £3 million.

On Tuesday, there was no affirmation, and it’s now possible that McGree will not sign for Celtic.

According to Football Scotland, talks between Celtic and McGree have come to a halt.

The negotiations have halted, and it now appears that Celtic will miss out on signing the Australian playmaker.

According to the Daily Mail, Middlesbrough has made a last-ditch attempt to get McGree ahead of Celtic.

Middlesbrough are offering £2 million more for the deal, with wages of £14,000 per week on the table, with Boro going all out.

McGreen spent 18 months on loan with Birmingham City in the Championship and enjoyed his time there.

Boro can provide a return to England, with Chris Wilder attempting to promote the club.

McGree would be able to compete for silverware at Celtic under Postecoglou, who has been an admirer of his since he was a teenager in Australia.

McGree faces a difficult decision, and what appeared to be a foregone conclusion in terms of a Celtic transfer is now in serious jeopardy.
