Scotland hopeful spotted at Ibrox as Rangers look to plug reported £4m void
Scott Wright was back turning out for Rangers as the club defeated Servette at Ibrox amid reports that a £500k move to Turkey and Pendikspor has now collapsed.
The 26-year-old winger came off the bench late on in the Champions League QR3 clash, replacing midfielder Nicolas Raskin as the first leg entered injury time.
It’s a dramatic turn of events for Scott Wright given that everything looked to be in place for the attacker, who only made five league starts last season, to leave the club.
Only a few weeks ago did a reported £500k move to newly promoted Turkish Super Lig side Pendikspor look to be on the cards with the winger spotted flying out to the country.
Accosted by the Sky Sports cameras, Scott Wright was glowing about his time at Rangers as a transfer seemingly beckoned for the ex-Aberdeen star out of Ibrox.
With Michael Beale unable to promise Scott Wright minutes this season, the decision appeared a mutual one with Rangers ready to sell the player and the winger ready to play more football.
But after the sale of Fashion Sakala to Saudi outfit Al-Fayha, Rangers having reportedly raked in a cool £4m for the player, there is now more space in the Ibrox squad for Wright to move into.
Speaking ahead of the proposed move to Turkey, Scott Wright detailed his Scotland ambitions and with first-team football a must to break into a competitive squad a move from Rangers looked likely.
With room freed up in the Rangers squad, perhaps Scott Wright views as Ibrox as somewhere he can now achieve his ambitions as speculation over the player’s future persists.
“Yeah for sure, I think in this profession it’s always something that you want to do,” said Scott Wright.
“You always want to represent your country. It’s always been an ambition of mine so yeah definitely, try and get some regular football and try and kick on.”
Joining Rangers in the January of 2021 from Aberdeen after initially signing a pre-contract, Scott Wright has made 84 appearances for the Ibrox side, scoring eight goals.
In that time the Scotland hopeful has lifted the Scottish Premiership, the Scottish Cup and reached the Europa League Final, but has never been called up to Steve Clarke’s squad.
