Lewis Hamilton may not have won the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix, but he still walked away with a tidy sum of money.
One of the F1’s most successful drivers, 37-year-old F1 driver from Stevenage also reportedly earns the most money.
Statista estimates that the Mercedes driver earns a staggering $55 million a year, based on data gathered in November 2021.
For the F1 star who rose through the ranks after graduating from the McLaren young driver program in 1998, that sum is staggering: £41,000,000.
When asked about his salary, the seven-time world champion said he wanted to use his mother’s maiden name, Larbalestier.
Ahead of the start of the new Formula One season in Bahrain on Sunday, March 20, he announced at the Dubai Expo 2020 that he had begun the process.
Hamilton said: “I am really proud of my family’s name. My mum’s name is Larbalestier and I am just about to put that in my name.
“I don’t really fully understand the whole idea that when people get married the woman loses her name.
“I really want my mum’s name to continue on with the Hamilton name.”
