Leon Balogun and Kemar Roofe netted a goal each in the first half and secured the first three points for Rangers in their Europa League campaign this season.
Playing a major part in the win which saw the Gers move to third from bottom in Group A was Gerrard’s solid midfield, among them Nigerian sensation Joe Aribo.
The 25-year old has shown great promise since joining the Teddy Bears two years ago, and his constant improvement seems to have escaped manager Steve Gerrard’s eye.
The Rangers coach heaped praises on the British-born Nigerian international for his (Aribo’s) great work, and is even worried that the midfielder could be sought after by other teams.
“He wants to learn, he wants to grow,” Gerrard complimented, stating that he doesn’t have to tell Aribo to stand up and be counted because the latter gives that without being told. It brings Gerrard joy to see Joe display his anger and maximize his size while playing, according to Gerrard.
The Gers coach loved Aribo’s first half display when his side beat Brondby at Ibrox yesterday, but with that comes the fear that other (perhaps better) clubs could snatch him. “If he can do that regularly, we’ll be lucky to keep him,” said Gerrard.
The English manager’s fears aren’t unfounded though, as premier league clubs are always keen on identifying and acquiring talents, especially from neighboring Scotland. With Aribo’s ability to create everything from nothing on the field, and his admirable strength, Gerrard might not be able to keep him long if the Nigerian keeps his current form.
