Sunderland are reportedly preparing to offer Ross Stewart a huge pay rise at the Championship side amid interest from Scottish giants Rangers.
The Mirror reports that Sunderland plan to make the 25-year-old striker the highest paid player as a desperate measure to keep him in their backyard for longer.
It is believed that Middlesbrough, QPR, and Sheffield United have also joined the race to seek the signature of the Scottish forward.
Stewart has been in good shape for Sunderland. His 26th goal of the season came in Sunderland’s League One play-off final win over Wycombe, helping them qualify for the Championship next season.
Stewart has 12 months left on his contract at the Stadium of Light, with Sunderland arguably in need of his commendable service.
On the other hand, Rangers will be seeking to bolster their squad after missing out on major trophies in the summer.
Rangers are expected to be busy this summer as Ross Wilson and Giovanni van Bronckhorst have their work cut out.
Alfredo Morelos has a year left on his contract. The Colombian international’s absence is usually felt whenever he is out of action for Rangers.
