Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly lost out to Erik ten Hag in the race to become Manchester United’s next manager.

Current manager Ralf Rangnick has taken on the role of interim manager while the club searches for a permanent replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

According to the Sun, Manchester United’s background checks on potential targets led them to Ajax manager Ten Hag.

After the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United’s top brass are hoping Ten Hag can restore the club to its former glory.

In order to give their new manager time to get up to speed before a busy summer of player recruitment, the club intends to make an official statement before the season ends.

After months of speculation, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has emerged as a surprise contender to take the helm at Old Trafford.

When Tuchel was asked about the Man United reports, he was clear about his position and distanced himself from the job.

Rangnick is rumored to be a member of the search team for a new manager. At the end of the season, the German will take on a consultative role.

Ten Hag, a 52-year-old coach, is expected to bring in some of the best players, but also keep some of those whose futures are in doubt.

Ten Hag, who recently expressed his displeasure with Ajax’s strategy of selling top players, has a contract in Amsterdam until the end of next season.

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino may have lost out on the Manchester United job because of Paris Saint-Champions Germain’s League exit at the hands of Real Madrid.
