The Hammers are hoping to add defensive reinforcements before the transfer window closes, and Duje Caleta-Car of Marseille has been linked with a move.
West Ham have reportedly made a bid for the Croatian player, according to L’Equipe.
The offer is reported to be in the region of €17 million, including bonuses, while Caleta-Car is demanding a fee of roughly €20 million from the French company.
In January, the 24-year-old was on the verge of joining Liverpool, but the deal fell through at the last minute. This summer, a switch to West Ham could be great for the player.
Caleta-Car has already established his worth in the French league, and he may be eager to try his hand at a fresh challenge.
The Hammers will also be able to provide him with European football.
The Croatian has the ability to develop into a great defender, and he and Issa Diop might establish a long-term partnership at West Ham’s backline.
The player is a great passer and could feature as a playmaker for David Moyes’ team from deep. Moreover, the Croatian is strong in the air and might be valuable at both ends of the pitch during set-pieces.
The defender has yet to realize his full potential, and with more experience and coaching, he could improve even more.
If the player is able to adjust to the Premier League, the rumored €20 million asking price may appear to be a bargain.
