Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly having better chances of completing the signing of Ivan Perisic from Italian Serie A club Inter Milan.
The Independent reports that the Croatian international has agreed to seal a two-year deal with Spurs, reuniting with his former coach, Antonio Conte, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next term.
Conte is a big fan of Perisic, as the Croatian winger was part of the Inter Milan team that won the Italian Serie A title last season. He is a free agent at San Siro after the expiry of his contract in Milan, with major European clubs, among them Juventus and Chelsea, chasing his signature.
After agreeing to stay for another year at Tottenham Hotspur, Conte will be seeking to reinforce his unit with the likely acquisition of Ivan Perisic.
The 33-year-old Perisic was one of Inter’s best players in their Champions League last-16 first-leg defeat to Liverpool in February.
Because of his efficiency, Tuttomercatoweb gave him 7/10 and wrote: “When he plays like he did in the second half, he gives the feeling of being one of the best in Europe in that role.”
Continuous challenges, quality crosses, accurate passes, and defensive contributions. Too bad they didn’t help him out up front.”
Tottenham Hotspur booked a slot in next season’s UEFA Champions League after finishing fourth in the just concluded English Premier League campaign.
Antonio Conte will be trying to help Spurs reach higher ranks in major European club competitions, and he will definitely need players with experience in such contests to achieve that in the coming season.
