The quality of football in the Champions League is unmatched, considering that it features top teams from Europe’s elite leagues battling it out for a spot in the coveted final.

It is undoubtedly the most high-profile continental club tournament in the world, full of action and drama.

As the world is looking forward to the competition kicking off next week, the 4 all-time leading goal scorers in the cup’s history, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema will be looking to add to their numbers as the new generation of stars, the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland anticipate to make names for themselves in the competition.

Here are some of the golden boot favourites.

Kylian Mbappe

PSG’s  Mbappe finished second in the list of top scorers last season, netting 8 goals and making 3 assists in 10 appearances.

With the addition of world class summer signings to the French side, there is no guessing how many goals the 22-year-old might score.

Cristiano Ronaldo

The Champions League all-time leading goal scorer made a sensational return to Manchester United this summer and this will give United fans hope of lifting the trophy.

Ronaldo has tallied up 134 goals in the Champions League earning him seven golden boots.

It is no doubt that he will be looking to add a couple more before he hangs his boots.

Erling Haaland

At just 21 years old, Haaland’s numbers are off the roof.

The Norwegian international was the Champions League’s top scorer last season, scoring 10 goals in 8 appearances.

Haaland has started the season in top form as expected, scoring six goals in five appearances across all competitions.

Lionel Messi

Arguably the best player that the game has ever had, Messi is currently in fine goal scoring form.

The Argentina captain scored a hattrick against Bolivia and will be willing to give it all to win the competition with his new club after a tough stint in the cup recently.

Robert Lewandowski

The 33-year-old has been at the top of his game over the last couple of seasons. He surpassed Gerd Muller’s 40 goals mark last season to become the new record holder of most goals scored in a single Bundesliga season.

Lewandowski has started the season impressively, scoring seven goals in just four appearances.
