According to The Athletic, Manchester United are set to make Paul Pogba their highest earning player with a new 5-year contract with the Frenchman earning a whooping £400,000 per week in the new deal.

Pogba will earn more than de Gea’s £375,000 and summer signings Varane and Sancho who earn £340,000 and £300,000 per week respectively.

The deal will run for a minimum of 4 years with an option for an extension till 2025.

They believe the significant increase on his £290,000-a-week wages will protect the player’s market value and prevent them from losing him for free next summer after an £89million outlay to sign him in 2016.

Pogba has only one year left in his contract and United are desperate to extend his deal before the window closes.

However, Pogba is yet to accept the renewal and is said to be willing to consider his options come next summer when he will be a free agent.

PSG had been linked with a move for Pogba this summer, but Lionel Messi’s shock switch to the Ligue 1 side stopped any deal from happening as the club prioritised the Argentine instead.

Nevertheless, as previously reported by Sportsmail, PSG have since offered Pogba a  £510,000-a-week salary if he joins them on a free next summer.

The 28-year-old has also been linked with La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid but their current financial situation has made it hard to sign him this summer and they will be waiting for him to run down his contract at Old Trafford.

Pogba got the new 2021-22 campaign off to the flying start on Saturday after he played a pivotal role in United’s 5-1 triumph win over arch rivals Leeds at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman made four assists making manager Solskjaer to praise him after the game.

‘Impressive,’ Solskjaer said of Pogba’s vision. ‘Paul’s always got that vision, he’s got that quality.

‘I’m very impressed with his fitness levels as well. He’s not been with us for too long and he looks fit, ready to go, enjoying his football.

‘I love seeing Paul and all these boys smiling when they’re playing football.’
