According to Chris Jack of the Glasgow Evening Times, Connor Goldson will leave Rangers in the summer and join an English team on a free transfer.
However, it is expected that he will depart Ibrox when his deal expires at the conclusion of the current season, and the ex-Brighton player will return to England.
Last season, Goldson was the standout performer for Rangers, who won the Scottish Premiership without a single loss and only 13 goals conceded.
It’s difficult to accept that Goldson is the same player this season as last. Goldson, perhaps more than any other player at Ibrox, has regressed the most, and there’s a high probability that his contract issue at Govan has played a part in that.
Even if there’s potential that he’ll be able to play in the Champions League next season if he remains, Goldson doesn’t seem keen on extending his stint at Rangers.
If he waits till the end of the campaign to find out if he’ll be in the Champions League group stages, he’s not the sort of player we want in our squad.
Whether we’re playing Celtic, Borussia Dortmund, or Cove Rangers, we want players that are 100 percent devoted.
With Goldson and possibly Leon Balogun gone, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson may have a significant rebuilding project on their hands this summer.
