Amidst the excitement of Lewis Hamilton’s alleged confirmation that he’ll participate in the upcoming F1 season, his current biggest rival in the sport and the reigning champion, Max Verstappen’s statements have left many rather surprised.

While most of the F1 faithful have been expecting a run for the titles from Verstappen, with some guessing that he will try to outnumber Hamilton as far as the championship count is concerned, the 24-year old revealed otherwise.

According to Max, that many titles have a lot to do with luck, and may not necessarily be a result of talent. “You need a lot of luck to be in such a dominant position for such a long time,” the Dutch told The Guardian.

The one-time world champion added that he didn’t just want a victory whenever he races, but wanted to have fun racing. “I just want to enjoy it and I know that, when I get to the track, I still want to win,” he said.

While making history might be the goal of any sportsman in their prime, and most, including Hamilton would want that dream realized, the Red Bull leading driver appeared nonchalant about it, and would rather accept whatever comes. “If I never get to a No.7 or No. 8, it is fine,” he stated.

Hamilton, who is believed to be training (from his social media videos) is expected to make a final decision on retirement after the FIA announces their result on the Abu Dhabi controversy. Hopefully, fans will be treated to another exciting season between him and Verstappen.
