Speaking to El Desmarque, Villarreal president Fernando Roig insisted that the club “does not need to sell” any of its best players while West Ham United negotiates to bring Arnaut Danjuma back to the Premier League.
Fabrizio Romano claims that the Hammers are willing to spend the £35 million necessary to lure former Bournemouth star Danjuma back to England. However, reaching an understanding with the Dutch international directly is turning out to be far more difficult.
The Guardian actually thinks David Moyes and the board are prepared to concede defeat and move on at this point. Jesse Lingard, who had a standout loan season at the London Stadium and gave his finest performance of his career, is naturally free after departing Manchester United.
Furthermore, Villarreal are not under any urgent pressure to capitalise on the top scorer from the previous season, who had 16 goals.
“We don’t have Financial Fair Play problems,” explains Roig. “(We’re in good) financial health and sporting health. We don’t need to sell. But if something comes along, we’ll see.”
When explicitly questioned about Danjuma, Roig noted that he was unaware of any potential transfer to West Ham.
“I don’t know anything about Danjuma,” he said. “I think the market is on pause. There isn’t the movement of other seasons. Things are calmer. If they stay, great, also if not. We have great strikers.”
