Dharmesh Sheth reports that West Ham United are finalising personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

According to the Sky Sports reporter, the Irons will use their £11 million permanent option on the Frenchman following his loan stay last season.

Areola is expected to accompany another incoming new player, Nayef Aguerd, through the London Stadium doors once personal terms are finalised.

Sheth gave an update on the Frenchman and his potential stay in London to GIVE ME SPORT on Thursday evening [16 June].

“A player that they had at the club last season; he was effectively their cup goalkeeper Alphonse Areola,” he said.

“The deal that they did with Paris Saint-Germain last summer was for a loan with an option to buy, and West Ham want to trigger that option. It’s around £11 million.

“I think they are finalising personal terms with Areola before triggering that option.”

After a quiet start to the summer transfer season, West Ham are set to spring to life with the addition of two new permanent players to their team.

David Moyes will be relieved that these two’s negotiations have come to a close, allowing his focus to shift to other crucial parts of the squad, such as midfield and the final third.

Once they are announced, the Irons can regain some momentum and Rob Newman can resume his transfer negotiations.

Areola was as dependable as ever in goal last season, and he will work harder than ever to take Lukasz Fabianski’s starting job in the Premier League and domestic cup competitions.

That competition can only benefit the team, and it’s evident that the two senior goalkeepers got along well as the season progressed.
