Newcastle have been in touch with Monaco centre back Benoit Badiashile’s representatives in an attempt to sign him ahead of West Ham United.

Newcastle are ‘very interested’ in recruiting him this month, according to French publication Foot Mercato.

Both Newcastle and West Ham have reportedly approached Badiashile’s agents to evaluate interest in a prospective transfer.

The prospect of trading Badiashile in January may not appeal to Monaco, but the centre back is in high demand.

The 20-year-old has started nine league matches for Monaco this campaign, with three more outings as a substitute.

At 6ft 4in tall, the Frenchman is a force to be reckoned with, but he can also make an impact from the flanks.

After ties to Sven Botman and Nico Schlotterbeck, Badiashile is likewise left-footed, suiting the Newcastle profile.

Given Angelo Ogbonna’s injuries and age, West Ham may be interested in a long-term left-footed centre back.

Badiashile will not be cheap, especially after being dubbed “the new Raphael Varane” after Real Madrid expressed interest in him in 2020.

That’s exciting news for Newcastle and West Ham fans, since the two teams appear to be the front-runners for Badiashile at the moment.
