West Ham United have begun talks with Everton in the hopes of luring left back Lucas Digne away from Newcastle United.T

According to the Daily Mail, the Hammers have launched an attempt to recruit Digne to East London.

Everton have recruited Dynamo Kiev’s Vitaliy Mykolenko as a left back, implying that Digne’s time is up.

Newcastle has reportedly offered £22.5 million plus Sean Longstaff for Digne, according to Sky Sports, but the Hammers have now matched their bid.

Digne might be signed now that Aaron Cresswell is out unwell and Arthur Masuaku isn’t suited for playing left-back in a four-man defence.

Digne’s £100,000-a-week wages, though, are said to be a concern for West Ham and might sink the deal.

Everton wants £30 million for Digne, so West Ham would have to spend a lot of money to make this happen.

It’s difficult to picture West Ham paying that much for a left-back in January, but David Moyes feels confident of finishing in the top four.

This month, Moyes needs new recruits, and Digne may provide a significant offensive danger down West Ham’s left flank.
