West Ham’s initial offer for Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior is likely to be rejected because the Serie A club wants to trigger a bidding battle for the center-back in January.
The Polish center-back’s performances from the 2021–2022 season drew the attention of the Hammers, who are preparing an offer of roughly €10 million for him this summer.
In the previous campaign, Kiwior spent the majority of the games in defensive midfield, helping Spezia finish in 16th position on the table and avoid relegation.
The defending Serie A champions AC Milan have also expressed interest in Kiwior, with Spezia expected to deem the Irons’ initial offer insufficient.
According to the Italian website Calciomercato.com, Spezia are planning to reject West Ham’s offer in order to spark a bidding battle for the 22-year-old in January and secure a larger fee.
For Spezia this past season, Kiwior made 22 outings across all competitions, recording six cautions in the process.
After selling Issa Diop to the recently promoted Fulham and losing Nayef Aguerd to injury, West Ham are looking for center-backs.
